Visitors to this 16,464-acre refuge located just south of Tishomingo will find a variety of hiking, nature trails, hunting and fishing opportunities from dawn to dusk. Open only during daylight hours, except for nighttime-fishing, the refuge also offers primitive campsites near the headquarters boat ramp.
Those looking for an outdoor adventure will enjoy Tishomingo's majestic Blue River. The Blue River is best known for its abundance of trout, small-mouth bass, black bass, crappie and blue catfish.
In April 1898, construction began on the Chickasaw Nation Capitol. This Victorian, gothic-style structure is more than 8,000 square feet and was built of red granite from the Pennington Creek quarry of Gov. R. M. Harris.
